Frequently Asked Questions

1. What will I need to bring to my first lesson?
You need to bring your provisional driving licence (photo card and green paper part). You are required to read a number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres, so bring your glasses (if worn).

2. Will I drive on my first lesson?
Yes you will. Learning to drive is a practical skill and you will learn more from having a go. I will usually drive on the first lesson to a suitable and safe place to start you off depending on where you live.

3. How many lessons will I need to pass the driving test?
There isn’t a set amount of lessons you need before you take your driving test. The DSA recommends 45 hours of tuition with 20 hours private practice. During the course of your driving lessons, it will become clear as to how you are progressing and it will then be possible to estimate when you may be ready to take your practical driving test.

4. Do I have to pass my theory / hazard test before I start learning to drive?
No. You can start learning to drive and then start your theory whilst learning. I have cd's, books and free mock test papers, which you can borrow. However you do need to pass the theory/ hazard test before you can book your practical driving test.

5. Can you pick me up or drop me off at Work/ College?
Yes. I can pick up or drop off at your place of work or college within the local area. Alternatively if it is outside the local area I can pick up or drop off at the train/bus station.

6. Will there be anyone else sat in the car with me?
It is my policy to give one to one tuition, however you are welcome to bring a parent along to see how you are progressing.

7. Which car will I take my driving test in?
You will take the driving test in the car that you have been learning to drive in. If I do change cars I plan the change not to be near any tests.
